In Denmark there would also be fish and shellfish and game (there are many red deer),
and waterfowl (migratory birds - ducks, geese). And the rainworms and frogs ;-)
In older times some poor people lived primarily of the fish they caught , plus the vegetables
they grew themselves (mainly potatoes , onions , cabbage and kale)
Roughly half of the farmed land in Denmark is used for barley, which is fed to pigs
-along with imported fodder (pig population 11 millions - twice the number of people!)
Vegetables : 200 square meters produces a lot of vegetables - I think enough for
one person - especially if you grow white potatoes.
You can survive on "some vegetables" and no meat at all ! - although I wouldnt like to do so.
