Kebba Dampha:
I have been wrong about many things in life, especially Politics in The
Gambia. And like you, to use your favorite phrase before the presidential
elections, "Jammeh is finished." Frankly, it does not matter to me whether I am
right or wrong. We all were in our prediction of Jammeh's impending demise.
But that is not the reason for joining these debates. I learn a lot from the
G-L. I share my take on things and one is free to agree or disagree. In my
line of work, this is normal. The perspectives expressed are valuable,
however. And we can learn from each other with tolerance. The issues are more
complex and can hardly be captured sufficiently by some of the simple arguments
you make or I make for that matter. Tolerance is the key.
Also, to use conclusions I made about the Presidential election as a basis for
evaluating the National Assembly elections is like mixing apples and oranges.
The contexts are very different. If the UDP/PPP/GPP Alliance were to contest
the NA elections on a similar platform, the outcome would not have been
different. So, in the end, you have not "proved anything
wrong."
And KB, I do not want to debate you, not that I can not, but I do not believe it
would be fruitful. I understand your position well.
Many thanks,
Abdoulaye

Perhaps what you do not know is that Dr. Saine sent his postmortem of the
elections earlier on and it was appropriately dealt with from this end. His
thesis has been overtaken by events and facts have proven some of his theories
wrong; just as I told him earlier on that he was wrong. The Parliamentary
elections show that ‘hugging’ Jawara is NOT necessarily a vote-loser. In the
eve of the election Yaya vindicated Jawara and practically endorsed the man.
Yet, APRC did NOT pay a political price for that. So, just like I said earlier
on, arguments connecting UDP and Jawara vices and theorizingthat that union cost
the Opposition the election, is simply nonsense.
