Hmmm ... I think the gentleman was referring to the analog unit when he
said that it didn't have a BFO or product detector.  The DX-392 most
definitely has a BFO (actually, it sounds like a product detector) so
that one can listen to CW and sideband signals.  Of course, it is most
definitely not a communications receiver but it will do for casual
CW/SSB monitoring.  It's actually a pretty good little radio and records
superbly.
