Hello all, and thanks for the informed thread on the TMG707a
A couple of weeks ago their was discussion on the list regarding the
G5RV antenna.
List members might be interested that the Chiltern DX Club March journal
has a small insert about it, downing its use.
The comment is that when it was first designed, multi band antennas were
not in existence, and coaxial feeders were new and expensive. Also,
that the vagaries of the tank circuit of valve rigs would accommodate
the system., but that the modern output circuits do not like the high
range of reactance's.
CDXC is the U.K.'s leading DX association, many members of which were on
the recent D68C expedition. The members of which suggested that a
better option would be a sloping dipole for the lowest band and then it
should resonate on all but 15m.
