I know that I came along a lot later than most of you, but my first 2 meter
handheld was the Yaesu FT-209. It was revolutionary for its time, with
direct keypad entry, memories, and up and down scanning as well as PL set
from the keypad.  In fact, I had all three, namely, tthe 209, 709, and 109.
In fact, I still have the 109 and it still works like a champ.
