I'd say it's a good deal. I have owned this particular radio (well, not
Jim's particular radio, but that particular model) for...gosh...three
years now. Longer than any other HT I've owned, for one reason or
another. It gets a bit of interference in some parts of the band, but
where seems to depend on location and amounts to opening of the
squelch. My radio works pretty well, even with a mag mount on the roof of
a moving automobile. However, the cigarette lighter adapter is not
filtered, and my radio on 70 cm transmitted quite a lot of alternator
whine. All in all though, I'd say it's a good rig. I don't have the
software, and it's perfectly usable without the software.

As for the batteries, I only have the 7.2 volt 600 mA batteries. Jim
probably has the 12 volt batteries (5 watt), I don't know how much those
are. Still, two batteries and a quick charger...not bad at all.

I'll note that the last time I looked on ADI's Web site
(http://www.adi-radio.com if I recall correctly), you could get an AT-600
accessory pack, which included a quick charger, NiMH 1000mA 12-volt
battery, 7.2-volt 600mA NiCD battery, cigarette lighter adapter, and (I
think) telescoping antenna for like $100...but I can't swear to any of
those details.

If I didn't have one alrady (and if I wasn't currently disemployed), I'd
buy it myself. <Heh>
