Seems a bit steep to me. I recall doing some work in the early 1980s =
while in the marketing department of the telephone company with a customer =
who had a answering service business. He was a braille users and wanted a =
braille readout for the ani readout on his equipment. (caller id) for the =
modernists). I pulled out an article by a Dr Horn (from Italy) who had =
designed a latching Braille transducer which was suppose to market for =
about 10 to 15 dollars per cell. We were never able to get any of these =
cells to try and design and build a readout for that customer and I think =
that the patent was bought by Siemons but I have never seen it available =
anywhere. Too bad as I do not think that these prices for display compare =
to today's nor am I aware of sources for those who might want to design =
and build their own equipment. Any knowledge out there that would counter =
 this?

Thank You!

No. But a guy at the Kentucky Bureau for the Blind designed (and would
make) a clock with a refreshable Braille display that read down to the
second -- only about six hundred dollars. I have always had ambitions
to get one for my shack but, naturally, never quite made it.

MMM ... think the engineer's name was Wayne Thompson.
