John, I thought I could help you out but I have the IC-2700H which is a
dual-bander.

It has buttons on the back of the mike and you can operate almost everything
from the mike independently.  I did program the PL tones into memory
channels since those aren't announced on a menu.  By doing that, I then can
select the appropriate memory and then switch to VFO mode with the correct
PL tone operational.
