Hi Fred,
I use the Ameritron ALS-600. This is probably lower power than the Yaesu
and Icom models but much less cost as well. I think one can be had for
around $1,000 or so new and it works great. Puts about 500 watts to the
antenna. The only control to worry about is a range switch on the front
which you set for each band. There is also an ALC adjustment on the front.
It has worked very well for me. Lately it had some trouble not putting out
power sometimes on key down but I called Ameritron and they were very eager
to assist. I cleaned the contacts on the relay as per their suggestion and
this has seemed to take care of the problem.
