I had the same result on two computers and the comm ports on both have
worked with other devices.  I thought perhaps the settings for the comm
ports had to be set in a special way, but if others have had no problems
this is not a likely solution.  I will look into the cable although I
know  no one locally who is using the data cable.  Thanks.
