yup, that's me ;)

or worse, Outlook Express -- as their email software.

to all, I have used Outlook Express for a couple years now, and have been
infected three times with virii, which upon checking symantec's website, were
only a day or two old -- so my virus protection definitions wouldn't have been
up to date anyway...

so far I've avoided any serious problems by doing several things....

1. I disabled "windows script hosting"

start, settings, control panel
add/remove program properties
choose windows setup tab
choose accessories from component list
in the accessories window, scroll down and
find WINDOWS SCRIPTING HOST and uncheck it
click on OK

2. since a lot of these worm type email virii find unread mail in your outlook
folders and send "reply" messages on to the senders, I usually "mark all read"
(under Edit on the menu bar) before I move on to another folder or
application.....

3. I have my java console turned off, and active x controls turned off
(control panel again, and/or browser settings)

4. I don't open any attachment, even from a friend, that has a double
extension,
that is, like " filename.doc.bat "..... the only files that are safe to open
end in .gif, .eml,
.jpg, .rtf, .txt, or .doc (but .doc files can contain embedded .vbs objects, so
they aren't even so good)

com, bat, vbs, exe, xls, ini to name a few, are total no-no's...

5. I don't store ANY of my passwords... I type them in every time. A lot of
these virii find your password file and ship it off within a few seconds of
infection...

well this is just amateuer stuff, but I hope it helps all you Outlook users...
