I think it's pretty much a generational thing. Sometimes it gets so silly
that you find yourself counting the "like"s in a coversation rather than
listening to the content (which is usually vaccuous, anyway). I find a lot
of my generation used "goes" for "said" (ex. "So she goes, 'look at the buns
on that one!'. Then I go, 'No kidding!'.")

Subject: Off Topic: A Question of Language
This question came up at the office today, and out of pure curiousity, I
thought I'd pose the same question to this group:
How many of you use "like" too often in your speech? I mean, "like my
friend Sally was, like, so cool, and she was like "oh thank you." That sort
of thing.
I know I'm driven nuts every time I hear this, but I was astounded when one
of my co-workers said I did it, too! Not very often, she hastened to add,
but on occasion. So I suppose I need to pay close attention to what I'm
saying. LOL
Another speech habit I loathe is "whatever." My sister uses it and it's a
real conversaton-stopper. It implies a brush-off of the other person and is
just plain rude, in my opinion.
So, what do you think? What are your speech peeves?
