Some list members here might find the below post of interest,
as it deals with organics.

 >Subject: [ivu-sci] sustainable agriculture research program

The University of California, Davis has set up a "Sustainable
Agriculture Research and Education Program" to provide info on
organic farming. They have a website, which has a link to
the (new) website of the USDA (US Department of Agriculture),
where one can read the US national regulations re: organic farming.
The UC Davis website also allows one to search related databases.

The website is at:

http://www.sarep.ucdavis.edu/organic/index.htm

A local newspaper (the "Berkeley Daily Planet" -- yes, it's
a real newspaper -- unfortunately, Clark Kent/Superman does *not*
work there :-) ) reports that UC Davis has received a $100,000
grant from the California Department of Food and Agriculture,
to expand the web site. ["Berkeley Daily Planet", Friday 25
October 2002, vol 4, #164, p. 3.]

PS someone interested only in the US national organic standards can
read them and download a pdf copy (in English, Spanish, or Japanese)
at:

http://www.ams.usda.gov/nop/NOP/standards.html
