Before taking apart the screen, try to get to one of the banded connectors
that is attached to the motherboard above the keyboard. You will have to
remove the keyboard and find the multi-colored wires.
I have personally disassembled 3 Thinkpad screens. There are screws
everywhere and under hidden rubber covers. Just be sure to document where
you found the screws for reassembly.
There are strands of cable if I recall correctly that connect in two places.
With any luck, you simply have a loose connector that can be seated better
once you are inside.
I think its worth a try in my experience.
