Before you do anything, check to make sure the data ribbon cable is securely plugged in and that the power plug is also securely plugged in. I've had my computer report no drives on channel 1 (CD-ROM & CD-RW) because one of the data cables was not pushed all the way in.If nothing is loose, then try completely disconnecting the slave drive from the data cable and from the power supply. If it boots up then, you've got a bad drive.
