Hi there!

I just stumbled upon the following new product announcement (see below):

Does anyone happen to know whether the new Xerox-Lotus KnowledgeShare
product provides a potentially accessible format? The report does not
mention OCR translation, but it does hints at searchability. (Personally, I
doubt that the format is potentially accessible, but perhaps I'm wrong.)

XEROX: Xerox and Lotus deliver "KnowledgeShare," a cost-effective document
management solution; Companies work together to bridge the paper and digital
divide, bringing increased productivity to customers
JAN 15, 2001, M2 Communications - ORLANDO, Fla. -- Xerox Corporation (NYSE:
XRX chart, msgs) today announced KnowledgeShare, a document and knowledge
management solution that converts paper documents into digital files that
can then be e-mailed and shared more easily throughout an organization.
KnowledgeShare enables companies to enhance productivity and reduce costs
associated with traditional paper-based document management.

Xerox and Lotus collaborated to develop KnowledgeShare, which is being
demonstrated this week at Lotusphere 2000, an annual trade show sponsored by
Lotus. KnowledgeShare bridges the paper and digital divide by providing
instant electronic access to information. It lets users find, retrieve,
update, reuse, share, store, publish and distribute documents quickly and
easily.

The solution uses Xerox's Document Centre digital multifunction products,
Cobra Technologies' Image Router for Xerox (CITX), and Lotus Domino
Application Server.

According to a user study by IDC, a leading independent research
organization, the projected return on investment for KnowledgeShare exceeds
400 percent over five years by improving productivity and knowledge
distribution while making more effective use of hardware.

"Much of today's information is mired in paper, an isolated and
non-searchable format, making it difficult to manage for many workers," said
Len Parker, vice president and general manager, Xerox Office Solutions
Business Unit. "KnowledgeShare demonstrates Xerox's commitment to delivering
innovative solutions that improve business workflow and meet customer
needs."

Xerox, Lotus and Cobra technologies work together by:

* Converting hardcopy documents to electronic format using the scanning
capabilities of a networked Xerox Document Centre product.

* Distributing electronic documents via e-mail or scanning directly into the
Lotus Domino databases or Domino.Doc repositories.

* Sharing electronic documents via Domino and Domino.Doc.

* Using document management applications to manage hardcopy and electronic
documents.

KnowledgeShare is part of Xerox's Business Partner Program, which has helped
systems integrators (SI's), independent software vendors (ISVs), and
value-added resellers (VARs) link software and the Xerox Document Centre
platform with their products and expertise to offer cohesive knowledge
management solutions to customers.

The KnowledgeShare solution is available in the United States, Canada and
Europe. Prices vary and are based on customer requirements.

Xerox Corporation is the leading provider of color and monochrome digital
printers, copiers and related document processing equipment. Xerox also
delivers solutions, services, software and supplies so that people in homes,
offices and corporate and production-printing environments can create,
manage and share ideas through paper or digital documents.
