it means that either your floppy drive cable is loose, or on the wrong way,
or worst case, you need a new floppy drive.... Seriously, re-check your
connections to the floppy drive, and the mobo.

Subject: [PCBUILD] Fdd fail error (40)
We are having troubles with some PCs we have.
Mobo Aopen MX4BS or AX4BS, CPU P4 1.5 GB, HDD Maxtor 40.0 GB 7200 rpm
D740X-, FDD Panasonic JU- 257A827P.
Ramdomly when you start the PC during POST, the message, " floppy disk fail
(40) " appears on the screen. However if you press F1 and ignore the message
the error, the fdd reads and writes perfectly in tghe OS.
We are especulating about a bad fdd batch, but I wanted to let the listers
have a chance to comment.
Any problem lately with panasonic FDD drivers?
By the way, what exactly means that error 40?
TIA
Roberto
