Steve, I had the same problem after installing ME I never did get it
totally resolved and ended
up disabling the registry checker.  Someone else will have to tell you
what the file name is I
can't remember. It was having a problem with older drivers was part of
the problem but I haven't heard that this is a problem with Win 98.
