Hello!
I have a Dell Dimension XPS B733r computer - now over 2 years old (sigh)
that I wish to upgrade with a new processor. Right now, the processor is
a 733 MHz Pentium 3, Slot 1 style that runs at 133MHz eternally (front
side bus?). The chip set is an Intel 82820 AGPset.
It seems that the fastest slot 1 Pentium 3 133Mhz chip running at 133MHz
is a 933MHz. At least, I see no one selling anything faster. Is that
true, or am I just missing something?
Second, I have seen an adapter that allows you to put the newer (hmmm -
back to the future...) Pentium 3 socket 370 chips (that go up to 1.26
GHz) into a slot 1 format. Quite cheap also - only $12 US. Is this a
safe thing to do? Has anyone heard any feedback about these adapters?
Can anyone on the list see any reasons to worry about getting the
fastest chip possible for the above mentioned system?
Thank you very much!
