Hello EASI colleagues,

I am pleased to announce that I will be facilitating two half-day courses at
the RESNA Conference, 27 June - 1 July at the Hyatt Regency in Minneapolis.
Both courses will interest people with sensory, mobility and learning
disabilities, older users, people with mouse- or keyboard-induced repetitive
strain injuries, assistive technologists, educators and trainers, software
developers and product/industrial designers, and anyone who demands fast, easy
and efficient access to Windows.

RESNA is a fantastic organization for individuals who work in (or have
interest in) technology and disability, and hosts an excellent annual
conference. I encourage EASI people to get involved in RESNA.

The first course is a primer on mouse-free use of Windows and Windows
applications. Although the ability to operate Windows sans mouse is a vital
skill for assistive technologists, course participants will discover many
unexpected ways that the keyboard-only interface benefits everybody. An
understanding of the keyboard interface opens new windows on Windows.

The second course is an introduction to macro software. Macro software is a
primary Windows "wormhole," i.e., a counter-intuitive technique to improve
usability of applications and repair accessibility bugs. As part of the
course, participants will work in small groups to develop macros to enhance
usability of mainstream applications and craft workarounds for otherwise
intractable accessibility problems.

1. Fundamentals of Keyboard-only Techniques - Improving Access to Windows.

Friday 28 June 2002, 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

This hands-on session introduces concepts and techniques for operating Windows
by keyboard alone, i.e., without using a mouse, pointing device or MouseKeys.
Topics include: fundamental principles of keyboard-only access; universal
keyboard commands; file management; and special considerations for using
keyboard-only techniques with MS-Word, Excel, and Internet Explorer.

2. Improving Access to Windows through Macro Software.

Friday 28 June 2002, 1:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.

Macro software allows users with (and without) disabilities to enter text and
operate a Windows-based PC with greater speed and less energy expenditure than
would be possible using "standard" techniques. During this hands-on workshop,
participants will (1) learn many ways that people with disabilities can
benefit from macro software, and (2) create a variety of macros that enable
users with disabilities to operate a computer faster, easier, and more
efficiently.
