The amount of education needed here seems quite a bit more than can be
handled in an e-mail message.  "Shocking" is the word that comes to
mind here.

Short answer:  SAS can be used with speech, and Excel, though a bit on
the tedious side, can also be used to do statistics.

Strongly suggest this professor take something like an EASI course.
