Here's a good one for somebody...
I am working on a friend's PC. When trying to dial out on the modem, an error stating that the COM port is already in use pops up. I have tried reinstalling the modem, installing a different modem, making sure there are no IRQ conflicts, etc. I have tried COM1 through COM4 with the same results.
The modem is an internal Zoom 56k. I have even tried using updated drivers for the modem. The OS is Win98SE.
The strange part is that when I reinstall the modem and reboot, it will dial out. But, if I shut the computer down and restart, it gives the error message again when I try to dial out.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
