The private address ranges are defined in RFC 1918, and there are
three of them:

    1 Class A (255.0.0.0 subnet mask) 10.x.x.x

   16 Class B (255.255.0.0 subnet mask) 172.16.x.x - 172.31.x.x

65536 Class C (255.255.255.0 subnet mast) 192.168.0.x - 192.168.255.x

Note that 192.x.y.y is NOT a private address unless x=168. If you
use any other value for x, there will be public sites that you cannot
reach from your network.
