Sorry Ive been on the road without laptop climbing curch towers with rickety
orginal 1840 ladders  and investigating voodo damage to masoleums..of slave
owners (not pretty) had to exhume the remains...but on a more cheery subject

the most simple test you can perform on the Lighthouse Ken is to cut the
joint.(no Ralph not ...light a joint)

take sample of joint pointing ( 3 areas min)
take as sample ....bring cape chisel and long drill point with small
coutersink (as a hand tool )
poke behind joint ...deep as you can ...observe conditions
and take samples .........is there
voids.?....powder?.....paste?.....moisture?,,,sound setting and head beds ?
lime mortar?.....chalking anywhere? tar ?

check the ground for scaling and exfoliation
check stone for salt lines....and sugar type conditions
is there ghost pointing
.is the sun side better or worse ..
.finally when all else fails
check with the lighthouse keepers daughter and get her to
"show you what she knows" and call me if you need help
signed    one if by land  two if by sea...
back in 10 days Michael...ps I will have the pleasure once again to visit
the  fair city of "Gotham" for 3 weeks of mid June to July.
