There's an advanced search capability in the FCC database, but you may need
to go to a different URL. You can search on any field. However, don't
expect a different result because the qrz.com database is a virtual mirror
of the FCC information and is as current as the original. Unless your
friend has been around for a long time; or has a vanity call; the chances of
their having a W8 call are slim to none, since W8 calls haven't been issued
since 1977 except to Extras and in cases of vanity call signs being issued.
If he's a General, depending on whether or not he had a Novice and kept his
original call, he'll either be a KA (or KB or maybe even KC) or a N8.

Thanks Dave. Like I said I checked the qrz.com, because I don't know if
the call I got was right I was expecting there to be a W8 call of some
kind, and of oourse the right address. Will the FCC data base allow you
to search by name? Last I knew it wouldn't, or at least I didn't see
anything.
