I have the vx5 and it works well. the software is good with JFW and is easily programed via the PC or on the fly with the radio for the times you need to make changes for a temporary occasion. I set the pl by moving through the tones til I can key the repeater and take it from there. I have a manual in ASCII though some of the graphics are a bit strange but if you get used to them or can take the time to edit it yourself you can make it more useable. I Cary that manual and the 530 manual in the BNS so can get help on the road if needed.
I have heard that others do well with the KENWOOD but I have not seen it. The vx5 does do tones for key identification and confirmation of commands as does the KENWOOD.

Hi Listers,
My old Icom O 2 A T has given up the ghost, so I am in the market for a
new handheld. I am considering the Kenwood THF6 and the Yaesu VX5R. How
is the accessibility of these? I apologize if this has already been
discussed. I am a new subscriber.
