Here is my suggestion: Use the original start up disk that came with the full version
of Win98SE; When the choice screen comes up choose #2 (start with CD-ROM support).
Change directory to CD-ROM: win98 folder. At the prompt type: format c: /s      Make
sure you put the space in between the : and the /

I think you are having a problem with other versions of command.com or io or ms .sys
files being on the drive. It is worth a shot... It solved my problems on two drive that
I just finished working on.

This format c: /s makes sure you are starting with the same system files to begin
working with the drive. I assume c drive is the boot drive.
