I had this problem with my network when I had an intermittent connection
with a Cat5 cable between a router and one of my PC's. It was connected
enough that it worked mostly but occasionally the number of errors would
through everything off including the router/hub. I'd have to power-off and
re-initialize my router to get everything going again. Since I replaced
the cable about 6 months ago, it has worked perfectly for all machines on
the network.
