Other reasons why canola ain't Paleo.
Canola is the oil of a seed- one of the major principles of Paleolithic diet
is avoid seeds- including grains and beans. Include seed oils as bad for
you- safflower sunflower etc etc. Olive oil (virgin and extra virgin is the
oil of a fruit and is therefore Paleo. "pure" and other cheaper olive oils
are made by shredding the leftovers and seeds and extracting the oils,
probably using solvents etc- not very Paleo.
Rapeseed oil has been used for centuries in China and India.
Ayurvedists- Indian traditional doctors- advise against using rapeseed oil,
according to a doctor friend who spends a lot of time in India. They should
know- centuries of experience, vs. a lousy 10 or 15 years with Canola on the
shelf. Ellie is right- Canola is a low erucic acid rapeseed developed by
special breeding.
