When my husband was in the hospital, the hospital menu ordering form had a
picture of the "pyramid" on it and the form told the patient to order foods
in the same ratio as the pyramid.
Wow, Mary. Interesting post. Here's something I found out during my last
hospital stay. I went in for a scheduled surgery, so I called the head
dietician prior to my admittance. I was prepared for a fight because I
consider any hospital dietician "the enemy."
What a pleasant surprise! The dietician was wonderful. I told her I was on
a paleo diet and she even offered to send someone on the kitchen staff out
to buy organic food for me if that was all I would eat !! She also gave me
a helpful bit of advice: when ordering off a hospital menu, you can put
"2X" beside anything you want to get a double portion.
For my meals, I put "2X" beside meat, veg and fruit. Totally crossed out
all grains, sugars, etc. What I ended up with was actually good food and
LOTS of it.
