Hi folks,
I've tried to spread the word about paleo but it often falls on deaf ears. A
lot of the people I've spoken to just aren't interested and there's nothing
I can do about that.
At lunch yesterday at work someone was tucking into a huge piece of
camenbert cheese and he was joking about the cholesterol. I pointed out that
the huge pile of white rice, the several slices of white bread and the bread
& butter pudding for dessert would do more harm to his cholesterol than the
cheese. He kind of laughed and said that didn't make sense because rice
doesn't contain any cholesterol (and is therefore good for you!!). He wasn't
interested. I started to talk about how your body makes the cholesterol but
it wasn't really going anywhere.
People at work think I'm a bit of a weirdo I'm sure. Actually, most of them
think I'm a veggie. Anything out of the ordinary and I must be a veggie!!!
I just think that a lot of people (probably most people) just aren't
interested in food and the link to health. They hear the stuff about low
fat, high carb and they want simple rules that allow them to eat food
without paying attention to what it's doing to them. I think that a lot of
people want a magic pill that will fix any health problems. And (more
worryingly) I think a lot of people trust what the TV and doctors tell them
without too much questioning.
But, looking at it another way, the world cannot be sustained if nobody ate
grains and dairy. So, do we want to encourage EVERYONE to eat this way?????
That line of thought gets a bit sinister so I won't go there!
