The higher tone means the function is activated.  The lower tone indicates
you are back to regular position.  For example mike #7 higher beep turns on
volume then you can change by using * to decrease and # to increase.  #9
does the same with squelch.

Hi Everybody: I need some info about the beeps that the 707 makes when ever
you press a button. ex: setting power level you will here beep beep then a
lower/deeper beep. where the lower/deeper beep is hi power. what I need to
know is when ever I press any button, what does the lower/deeper beep mean?
that is: does it mean tone on? or off? Or when setting the split does the
lower/deeper beep mean +600 or -600 or simplex?
