A new Swedish research has been made on 6686 persons in a small community,
91% of all citizens over 20 years old.
45% of the men were overweight (BMI 25-30) and 12% obese (BMI 30 and up)
for the women the numbers were 32% and 17%
A better way to measure is to just take the abdomen circumference.
26% of the men had this measure between 94 and 102 cm and 18% more than 102 cm
for the women 23% had abdomen circumference 80-88 cm and 27% more than 88 cm.
The risk to get diabetes was found to be 2 times as big for men with
a. c. 94-102 and 3 times with a. c. more than 102 compared to those with
a.c. under 94. For women the corresponding risks were 3 times and 6 times
respective.
One conclusion is that it is a good idea to check the abdomen circumference
at health controls.
