At school they had me on phenobarbitone for years. At age 14 I realised that
not only was it repressing my naturally bubbly personality (:->) but had some
unfortunate contra-indications with a number of social drugs I was looking
forward to imbibing in a few years!!

They gave us the drugs at the dispensary after meals and I developed the
"magicians palm", holding the tablet in a skin wrinkle while it looked like I
tossed to the back of my throat and swallowed.

My downfall came because I went back to the dormitory and tossed the drugs
into the back of the draw. About 18 month this was happening, then one day
the staff had a full school search (they were looking for the missing lead
flashing from under the window sills of all the boys dorms (cos the rain was
starting to leak into the girls dorms underneath)). Instead they found my
drugs cache.

Hauled in front of a shrink I soon realised that his major concern was not my
health - since I had obviously thrived for 18 months without medication - but
what had I intended to do with my lethal drug hoard. He was fishing to see if
I had thought of putting it in the large tea urn in the staff canteen. I said
"No", but thanked him for the idea - never gave me medication again.

And what of the lead. It was all replaced, and all our catapuls confiscated
after a gardener drained the goldfish grotto after a number of fish seemed
unwell!!! ;-)

Cheers

Deri
