and my uncle set and told me "ken, faye and i planned to travel when i
retired. i am less than one year from retirment and now all those plans are
gone. i am not saying don't make plans, but if you have something to do, go
ahead and do some of them now."

Then you know how tough it is to watch someone you love die of long-range
suffocation. For that is what is was - a very very long death by
suffocation. She lived for five years after her diagnosis.

Yes, I agree; my mother died of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis which is
similar to emphysema but kills more quickly. I wouldn't wish that on my
worst enemy.

Being around AA for years, I have seen respiratory problems as the result of
smoking impair as many people as alcohol and drugs. I have gain lots of
weight as a result of quitting smoking and a large gut seems to impair
respiration even more. I am glad I stopped before my emphysema progressed.
Emphysema is worst than lung cancer in my view.
