Hi,

        Having been so upset over the Supreme Court's decision in the
U.S.A., I
thought I could spur people on by providing the text of a definition of
disability from the Employment Equity Act in Canada.  Maybe some amendments
could be made to the ADA to incorporate such language.  On PBS a woman
explained how the misinterpretation of Congress's intentions led to such a bad
decision.  Definition follows:

Persons with disabilities, as defined by the Employment Equity Act, are
persons
who have a long-term or recurring physical, mental, sensory, psychiatric or
learning impairment and who

· consider themselves to be disadvantaged in employment by reason of that
impairment, or
· believe that an employer or potential employer likely would consider them to
be disadvantaged in employment by reason of that impairment.

These would include persons whose functional limitations owing to their
impairment have been accommodated in their current job or workplace. For the
purpose of this policy, persons with disabilities do not have to fall strictly
within this definition. Examples of types of disabilities which may require
accommodation are listed in the attached Guidelines.
