The line "device=high,umb" should be changed to "dos=high,umb"

However, this message is probably caused by an incorrect system file in the
root directory.  I suggest that you boot with a known good W98 floppy
containing the "sys.com" file (this file can be found in your
\windows\command folder) and cut to a DOS prompt.  At the DOS prompt type
"sys c:"  ...then reboot.  HTH, Anthony
