I bought and purchased the Promise 100 a couple of months ago. The price
difference is about $10, and the speed difference is 33 Mb per second. That
would be significant if you do a lot of data transfer. I have only one 7200
rpm ATA 100 drive. The slave drive is ATA 66. Both work on the card which
is backward compatible down to ATA 33. For the $10 I bought this one for
future upgrades or whatever. I have had no compatibility problems with
Western Digital and Quantum drives. You might want to check their web site
to see if there are any known issues. I haven't heard of any, and the card
wouldn't be much good if it weren't compatible with all the major
manufacturers' drives. I could see it being incompatible with Ray's Hard
drive, but not with IBM, WD, Quantum, Seagate, Maxtor, and the other majors.

Subject: [PCBUILD] Promise FastTrak RAID cards - 100 vs. 66

Hello All,

I'm looking to buy a Promise FastTrak RAID card. I have an IBM Deskstar
ATA/100 20GB drive now and want to get an identical drive to hook up to the
RAID card. Will the Promise FastTrak 66 work with my 100 drives? I'm
assuming it would but the drives would be limited to 66 transfer rates. If
so, would there be much of a speed gain if I went with the FastTrak 100
instead of the 66? Or would the difference be similar to race car waxing?

Also are there any known incompatibilities between the Deskstars and Promise
RAID cards that anyone knows of?

Thanks in advance.
