Have you tried disabling the onboard sound? This is done in the BIOS,
additionally, you should also ensure that the sound wire from your
motherboard or cd device is properly connected to the soundcard.

Subject: Re: [PCBUILD] Sound Card Not Working

I am still working on missing sound and appreciate the reply. No speaker
on taskbar. I use other volume control and wasn't using taskbar volume
control when sound went out. I get device working properly messages for
my sound devices in Device Manager, Win98, but get message "could not
find any audio card or audio drivers" when I try to get sound from either
CD or sound file on hard drive. As I have related, I tried removing and
reinstalling sound drivers, but that didn't help, and I don't know what
to do, except maybe try ISA 16-bit sound card I have. I don't know if
sound card being 16-bit will present any problem. Present sound is
onboard 3D Crystal sound. I checked jumper and it is in correct position
for onboard. Speakers work fine on another computer.
