Dear Lyndy, I am replying to your mesage about celiac and diabetes. I
have an eight year old who was diagnosed at age two and a half with
diabetes and when we start thinking that we have it all under control
the celiac joins the confusion at age 7. She is doing better but as you
know we have our days. Courtney will be 9 in July. We live in Montana
and have a summer camp that travels to Bozeman. I contacted them last
summer to see if was possible for her go and they said that the diabetes
and celiac are becoming more common with each other. That fact is that
1 out of 20 diabetics have celiac but are just know being diagnosed
properly. Courtney got the flu right before she was suppose to go to
camp so she was unable to attend but I will get ahold of our diabetic
educator (who attends this camp and who is also a diabetic since two)
and have her send you some information. Don't give up, if you let the
camp directors in your area know about her celiac ahead of time I bet
they would go out of their way to bring in specialists and work with you
and your child. Let me know if you have any questions or suggestions
for how you are doing. I could always use more advise from someone who
is dealing with this on a day to day aspect. Thankyou and Happy New Year.
