Basically you need a network adapter(nic) in each computer.
A hub to connect them with Cat5 cables long enough to connect each computer
to the hub.
I have used inexpensive 5 to 8 port hubs and they seem to work okay
If you are running  windows 9X , ME, or win2k you can use windows
networking, very easy
to setup.
There are wireless solutions as well as systems that use your homes phone
wiring, but I think they are
usually slower than a regular wired network .
