The system I am currently working on looks as follows:
1GHz AMD Athlon
Creative Geforce 2 with 32MB
128MB ram
Asus A7V motherboard (bios 1004)
Windows 98SE
Soundblaster Live Value (with latest drivers)
IBM Deskstar 30GB Hdrive (ATA100)
VIA 4in1 drivers version 4.24 installed
AOpen 16X DVD
Accton Cheetah 100Mbits lan card
Everything works fine untill the SBLive is installed. Frequent crashes
would then occur, especially when CDroms are accessed.
If I remove the SBLive drivers, the system is stable again. I have the same
problem with the MX300 sound card.
When the PC freezes, the motherboard is approx. 40 degrees Celsius and the
CPU 61 degrees Celcius. I don't think overheating caused the problem, but I
could be wrong.
I have tried re-installing Win98SE and all the drivers, but results did not
change.
I would appreciate any suggestions.
Charles Barnard
