I was in that situation just last week. I had an old
epson stylus 440 printer, which today is probably only
worth $30-$40 [they don't even make that model
anymore], but to change the ink cartridges would have
cost me about $80, so I bought a new printer. I
figured it this way; I am still going to have to
eventually change the cartridges on the new printer
and pay the $80, but at the time it simply didn't make
any sense to do that for an out-dated printer that is
worth less than the ink cartridges.
