Subject: Installation of Promise ATA 100 Controller
I recently installed a 20 gig HD into my system, which is an Asus MB,
200MMX, HX chipset. I used the EZ Bios software and everything has been
fine. Today I installed a Promise ATA 100 controller card so that I could
place the 20 gig drive on that and remove the EZ software. I installed the
card and drivers separately (without the hard drive) and everything went
fine. I have Win98SE, and the drivers installed form disk and the
controller is recognized in device manager and no conflicts. I then
rebooted to be sure everything was fine, which it was. I then shut down and
placed the 20 gig drive on the controller card being careful to set the
jumper for single drive and installing the special cable properly with pin 1
in pin 1 at both ends. When I boot the controller bios shows the hard drive
attached now, however, it does not come up anymore in Windows Explorer.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you , William Patton
