To add to Jun's comments.....
Any color CDR disk ___should____ work in any burner,
but that is not always the case.  My Acer brand burner
works just fine with gold, silver, and green CDs, but it
has trouble with blue CDs.  I can burn a blue CD and read it on
my daughter's computer and my wife's DELL notebook, but the disk is
unreadable on machine that created it.  Now what makes this little
story even wierder, is that ACER brand CD-RWs are.......... blue,
and those RW disks work with no problems in my burner.

You just have to experiment with your particular burner to see which
colors will or will not work with it.

As to the music CD question.  A standard CDR will record data or music.
There is a subset of CDRs that are clearly labeled as MUSIC ONLY, but
I have never fooled with them so I can't speak about their capabilities or
limitations.
