Thanks for the excellent feedback from the group. Here is an update.
I reset the bios, installed 2 sticks of 16mb simms and 2 of 16mb dimms,
total 64mb, and everything works great. I have booted to Windows98 and tried
out a few routines without any problems. So, the checksum errors were caused
by memory type, as Peter Hogan, suggested. Also, one stick of 64mb did not
work, probably due to board limitations.
Mike (Evans) try resetting your bios to default values, let us know if that
solves your problem.
