Hi cathy,
Does your message "disk boot failure" appear at boot up? That could be hard
drive trouble. Even so, you should be able to boot from the floppy with a
system disk and get to the A:\ prompt.
Are you positive your floppy boot disk (not drive)is good and is the correct
one for your system.
I assume the operating system does not come up. If so:
Is your hard drive set up correctly in cmos/bios?
Do you get an A:\>? If so:
At the A:\> prompt-- type: A:\>fdisk /status
The status switch will show: (1)Disk number (Disk 1 if only one
partition);(2) drive (usually C:); (3)size of partition in Mbytes; and
(4)usage (usually 100%)
This info can tell you if the Hard disk is fdisked and formatted as desired.
You have to eliminate suspects one by one. So far you knmow your floppy
drive is good because it works in another system. But that doesn't mean it
works in your system.
Insert any floppy disk in the drive and reboot. You should get an "invalid
system" message. That will prove your system can read a floppy.
Next, you need to clear the Hard drive. Look in cmos/bios setting. make sure
it is recognized in auto detection. make sure settings are saved before
exit.
Altho I'm not clear as to what is actually working on your system, maybe the
above will help.
