Go to start/run, type in sfc, and hit enter.  Run System File Checker (SFC) to see if you have any corrupt files.  If nothing shows up, the software you are using for your Internet service may be bad.  Try uninstalling it and reinstalling.  If that doesn't work, go to start/settings/controlpanel.  Double click add/remove programs and go to the Windows setup tab.  Scroll down to "communications", double click it to see all the stuff.  Uncheck the box for dial up networking, then restart your computer.  Go back and recheck that same box and click OK. You'll need your Win 98 installation disk so that Windows will reinstall DUN.  If that doesn't work, next time you can't disconnect, do control alt delete to see if you have this file still running "rnaap".  If so, use SFC to replace it from your Windows CD.  You might also replace your rundll32 file using SFC.  Try rightclicking on the little monitors and choosing disconnect.  Might also be the fates telling you to get DSL or cable.
