I'm kinda' doing now what you want to do ,  if I understand you correctly.
I have two hard drives (one with win98se and one with win2k) attached to the
onboard ATA/66
 controller on an Abit BE6 mobo, I simply press ctrl + H on boot-up
 and switch the boot drive in the Hightpoint controller bios for
to the drive with the desired OS.
 It works okay for me, cause I don't often boot to Win98SE now.

  I previously installed Win2K over Win98 on the same drive, then it booted
to a prompt
which asked which OS I wanted to boot to. That worked well also.
 Don't think you really need a mechanical hard drive switch to dual boot.

I third option I have used for linux/win9X/win2k switching are removable
hard drive trays that fit a 5-1/4 slot, and allow you to swap hard drives
easily without taking apart the computer and swapping cables.
