(With apologies to all the sane country folk) An unsubstantiated story from
my first preservation class in the rolling hills of Pennsylvania, the
Appalachian 'Mountains'. Worked at an old iron forge and adjacent village.
The blacksmith's house had been lived in for some 30 years by a squatter.
Additions had been made with chicken wire and layers of cardboard. He had
squatter's rights on the place except, for a portion of that 30 years he had
been in prison, so he hadn't lived there continuously for the required time.

Prison? you may ask. Why was this man in prison? He killed his sister. GASP.
Why? Because she sold her daughter to a neighbor for a case of beer.
